Have you bought many? If not, the answer is probably no. SA-CDs will be around for as long as people buy them. DualDisc is after a somewhat different market, where absolute sound quality is secondary to "features". There are also technical tradeoffs involved so there's no guarantee it will even be around for long.

I probably would try if I have a universal player.

The issue now is that new releases are slowing down by major companies who were behind SACD like Universal & Sony. And both are issuing DualDisc ahead of SACD.

I dont think these are available in the Uk or Europe...They seem to be generally pop stuff and So far the resolution seems to be pretty low...Even the stated bit rate at 24 on the higher quality level seems to have compression or flattening of the peaks according to tests...and is no different or poorer to 16 bit CD...Not sure if this will " kill "sacd....Just seems like Sony are making a few bucks (not euros or pounds) from a potenetial wide market,,,,The up side is that their must be something to learn from trying this dual disc out for the future of any "blueray" items which are "just down the Road" several years away ? .....Dave

If you look here, all these titles were previously released on SA-CD:

I think you'll find they're just trying these out (in the US only?) to see if there's a market for the concept. Maybe there is. This doesn't mean they can't coexist with SA-CD.

Updated list here...

Pretty impressive for a relatively new format.

Sony pop artists like Jennifer Lopez & Destiny's Child new releases are on DualDisc but no plans on SACDs yet (their previous are all on SACD). Not that they are worth buying... but they have a wider appeal which is an attractive way for a new format to take off.

I see nothing that impresses me. Nothing whatsoever.

Most of these appear to be from Silverline. They still have to find a market for these after the initial novelty.

Sony DualDiscs aren't really an issue with SACD. They are basically CD + DVD-V. The "advanced" resolution stereo is 16/48 and multichannel tracks, if there are any, are Dolby Digital. Furthermore, the CD playing time is limited to about 60 minutes.

This is one of the big negatives of the DualDisc format (and of the CD + DVD format as well). There are no hi-res requirements on the DVD portion of the release, in fact you may not even get CD quality audio or even the album in surround sound (they may just use the DVD side to record additional material such as videos and "making of" documentaries).

It is my understanding that Sony lobbied for there to be no such requirements since they did not want to release a format which would compete with their SACD format.
