It is not always possible to get the demos required in the UK. I was unable to get a demonstration of the Sony 9000ES player . I found the reviews in both Stereophile & Hi-Fi News to be inaccurate and I sold the player at a considerable loss.

Stop being in abject denial that there ARE better toys than we have in our arsenals and just because we cannot afford them does NOT mean that they don't exist.....thus my post THE FANTASY WORLD OF SOME SA~CD.NET POSTERS! Living in Denial will ultimately deny you of the advances made in SACD/CD replication in the last few years.

When a cheap transport A puts out a flawless datastream, then please explain, dear Rammiepie, how can an expencive transport B improve on this perfection?

Remember: this data changes into music only in the DAC, not before.

You must have access to some Alien Tecnology which surpasses the science and logic of our known universe.

Great photo Paul.
1) He looks obviously confused by the Petrus answers ?
2) He is thinking, I can see Sarah Palins House from here.?

To be honest Im glad Julie doesnt listen to classical music as he would find
that both a Strad and a cheapo Chinese made copy are exactly the same when measured.Yeah they sound the same when your deaf.
I would hate him to have to compare two beautiful woman.Though it would be great to be a tape measure at the time.
Now that is some fantasy.
LOL.
He is consistent.Three out of three
All WRONG.

But Mr. T~B, if the genuine Stradivarius didn't exist, there could be NO cheap Chinese rip-off to emulate it. Which is my exact point. There are a lot of cheap knock-offs of everything but sometimes the parts and extreme precision in fashioning a higher~end component cannot be duplicated on the El Cheap! The Fantastic~Plastic Fantasy World continues, unabated, and the adage "Ignorance is Bliss" and "Cheap IS Better" flourishes in the small minds of certain SA-CD.Net posters. Troll~Buster, Petrus and Paul Clark shall henceforth be known as the MP Threes! Kick out the Jams, MotherF.....Kers! or, er missing BITS!

So true!

From the Rammipie's writings only 2 conclusions can be drawn, one or the other is true:

1) Rammipie (and people like him) live in the aforementioned bliss of ignorance. They do not understand, and refuse to understand the basic difference between a LP vinyl player and a CD/SACD transport. Namely that LP contains "sound" in a mechanical form, the contraption used to get that signal out (called a turntable) is a resonating instrument, where many thing directly or indirectly affect the outcome. Not so with a digital transport, which is only a glorigfied data disk reader. This data is only a list of measurements of the original audio waveform, it is not "sound". If and when it is read flawlessly from the disk that is all there is to it. In the computer world this is done with an amazing accuracy, and must be for those machines to work at all. This is done with a $30 drives. A more expencive and heavier and impressive looking drive can not do it better, as perfection can not be bettered. It might give some satiscation of ownership as it is impressive looking, has high price and the right logo, but that should not be confused with its data reading abilities, which are the same as any $30 drive: practically perfect. A fact that can be easily verified.

Furthermore people like him are the perfect target to Über-HiFi snake oil salesmen, who need wealthy but ignorant people who want to romantize a data reader which reads audio sample values from a CD or DVD (SACD is a form of data-DVD) disk. The same drive on their PC gets not the same affection, for some strange reason (thank God...).

2) Those high-end HiFi shops Rammipie often describes in flowing and glowing words ARE in fact alien tecnology outposts where seemingly mundane measurement data produced by earthly humans can be transformed into something else with these alien tecnology machines, which transcend the limits of our science and laws of physics. This opens up magnificient vistas of improving all kinds of data with these "transporter machines", not only audio waveform measurements, but also construction drawings, bank statements, health statistics etc.

I stand accused.......but the ingluorious basterds shall never conquer because I have something special they'll never have........a F++CKING awesome sound and video system (actually 5) that they can only dream about! And there's nothing remotely "ignorant" about that. I'd rather have the genuine Stradivarius than the Chinese knockoff which sounds "exactly" like the Strad because it's worth much more. Because ultimately, Sound Really Matters. When you take cheap pot shots at a true audiophile, you're only shooting blanks. I rest my case!

Yes, after you run out of concrete, scientific base for your praise of $15000 data disk readers you whip out the envy card. I never realized that the envy I feel can affect data read quality and numerical data transfere qualities of my CD/SACD transport making it worse than a high end system! I must try not to think about better systems while listening!

I can understand and even accept that trying to project envy to others is the basic, real reason behind getting badly overpriced gear. You just should be honest and not talk about imagined sound differences, only the weight, finnish and the price of the transport. Tell you what: I rather listen to my sub-20k$ system (and another 20k$ in recording equipment), knowing that I understand how it works, where it could be improved most efficiently and where not. I would not trade knowledge and engineering education to money.

I would be interested in knowing what components you have.
