I have only a few of Suzuki's disks. I must admit at one point out of blind prejudice I thought it impossible for "imported Japanese copies" of Bach to be authentic. Obviously, any European group would be truer to Bach. Don't they have a Japanese accent in their German or Latin? Well, it goes to show how stupid we can be sometimes.
Suzuki and his group with considerable help from BIS (more damn foreigners) have created performances of surpassing beauty and authenticity. Incredible performances. And, I think I have fallen in love with a few of those Japanese sopranos singing Bach auf deutsch. Beautiful voices. A magnificent undertaking superbly done.

In response to the question, even though it was meant to be rhetorical, I do hear in the larger choral numbers a Japanese accent; thus, it is "Qwedo in unum Deum". No such problem with the solists, but in the larger group there are some pronunciation issues; they hold back at times and muffle the words. Naturally, this would not bother me particularly if I was Japanese. But I am not and was introduced to this work by the 1962 Karl Richter recording, with the Munich Bach Choir. Perhaps this means Latin with a German accent is my own prejudice!

Quentin about the multichannel Mix. Is it rather conservative or are there Voiles to Instruments placed in the Rear or otherwise antiphonal?
