Why so much saturation ?
What is to be hiden on this album : an ill voice, an insignifiant guitar, a burst microphone ? I don't understand editors and som sound ingeniors...

From the reviews on this website and from my own listening experience, ROOM FOR SQUARES is none of the things you've described. In fact, I find the sound and content of this album one of the brighter spots in Rock music recordings. In fact, Mayer has been acknowledged as a guitar virtuoso and has guested with a number of rock heavyweights. And since Amazon [US] is selling this SACD for $8.99 (multi-channel) I would advise anyone considering a purchase to grab it before it, too, is OOP.

Maybe take a close look at your system, telemak. Something is awry as your description is way off base for this disc.

My system is OK with many SACDs (Pentatone or old jazz remasters like Kind of blue).
I will try to listen once more, in doubt you gave me. But I had to stop quickly the playing at first try.

I have this SACD and I can tell you the sound is fanastic. Great Album.

All right. Too many classical and jazz SACDs for me. I didn't unterstood the artistic willing of having a dry sound with saturation on any preamps (guitars) and few bass level.
It's a matter of taste. I don't like, but it's well done for others...

But the real problem you are avoiding is that your speakers are either not properly set up and imaging well or this wonderful, fantastic sounding album would leap out of your speakers as would all the other albums you have in your collection! Take some time to "listen" to your speakers critically and make some adjustments or NOTHING (NADA) will sound the way it was intended.
