Perhaps a discussion regarding this new recording Robert is releasing soon is in order. How did you find recording in Tokyo, Robert? I'm familiar with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Where did you record these, BTW?
It was recorded in the new Concert Hall in Kanagawa Prefecture (a suburb of Tokyo) on their new piano, which was chosen by Noriko Ogawa, who was born in Kanagawa and is on the Board for that Hall. As always in Japan, the sessions were really efficient, but, then, the orchestral part isn't all that difficult. The pianists, however, had their task cut out for them. It is almost inhuman what they did. As anyone who ever recorded 2 pianos or four-hand piano knows, it is all but impossible to get absolute timing between the pianists (Debussy's 'En blanc et noir' being a particularly nasty example) but here they manage it, as if it were one person with 4 hands playing. And the music! Minimalistic jazz comes to mind.
