Good to see that Chicago are sticking with SACD and DSD. Gramophobe was carrying advertising for this disc ahead of SA-CD.net so I was concerned that they might have abandoned us. Anybody attend the performance? What was your verdict?

Some of my main problems with some of the best SACD recordings of this work are the soloists. I can't think of two better current singers to fill these parts. I'm very excited for this recording, particularly after reading the above reviews.

It's a two-disc album(total time:82'02").
a single disc is much preferable but it's ok with me unless I have to pay the double price for it.

First listening indicates that this is indeed something special. I will post a review later.

You mean the first movement, right? Blomstedt and MTT did the same horrible thing. That's mawkish I'd say. Why try to get attention with idiosyncrasy? and why other conductors do copy such a bad idea?

yes. mawkish is a good way to describe it. listen to the way bruno walter does it. he KNEW mahler for goodness sake!!

I received the Haitink on Friday and managed to get through it the first time while my family was out of the house (no "turn it down" to deal with from my kids and wife). The recording (I listen in two-channel), especially the brass, is quite good. However, the interpretation is too laid-back for me. If I didn't have the Gergiev, Ozawa, and Fischer I might be more excited about this one. Fans of the Chicago Symphony will enjoy listening to a wonderful orchestra. Maybe Muti will be more exciting than Haitink....
