As for specific comparisons with the RTR versions:
1) When I 1st listened to my Rheingold/Ampex copy, detail was the most striking feature, like the the oboe's tremolos just before Alberich sings "Falsches Kind!Kalter grätiger Fisch!" and the "gold" theme in the woodwinds, right when Alberich is robbed of the ring, among several other details, even with extreme tape hiss and other analogical reproduction problems ( andmy copy is very dated and harmed!).

2) Contrary to the above mentioned aspect, the overall analogical "juice" isn't a unanimity; so my question is for the RTR people:
considering that thereis another RTR version beside Ampex (from a caliofornia-based company called 'Stereoplay' or something), is this SACD version really superior to a good, analogical reproduction on a B-77 or some other semi or fully professional deck?
Thanks.

The Solti Ring Cycle (on Esoteric -- which I still think is a fabulous mastering when compared to my 1960's vintage U.K. Decca LP's) has risen in price at Elusive Disc. Now (because of it's alleged "rarity") they're asking $899.00. Glad I bought mine from them for $736 when it first came out!

Good as it undoubtedly is, the Solti Ring does not really compare with Karajan´s on DGG and LP.IMHO.
I have both sets on LP and Karajan delves much deeper into the music than Solti who seems content to blaze out the Leitmotifs.
Karajan and his Berliners may not always have the same standard of soundquality, but musically they are in a different league, I would even say unrivalled in many respects.
Now those mastertapes would make a superb SACDs or high res downloads if DGG only, really cared.
Until then, I am happy that I still have the LPs.

I just wish I'd never heard the Goodall Ring! Hunter and Remedios...Glorious. Goodall has a wonderful way with atmosphere. Too bad Chandos wont release a DSD version? The sound is warm but a little congested at times.
