Give it a rest. If you don't like the pricing, buy it elsewhere.

That was the intention of my post, which you seem to have missed. Once the facts are on the table, there will no longer be any merit to the nasty accusations about price gouging, and the subject will be put to rest. Conspiracy theorists don't go gently into the night.

Latest news for the UK contingent

"Hi John

Thank you for mail. The four new discs should be here in the UK next week if all goes well. The Solti is launched in Japan on the 21st Dec. European deliveries will be late January not before. I will keep you up to date.

Thank you and kind regards

So people are not allowed to criticise? I will not buy this set.

One senses that there is a belief in some circles that hi-fi aficianados are a pretty well-heeled bunch because of its niche status, specialist glossy retailers and pricing structures. Those of us who spend additional fortunes indulging our fantasies on the lunatic fringe areas of vinyl and high resolution digital audio must be therefore regarded as amongst the most polished of the well-healed and in no less equal measure amongst the most gullible.

I know it is an illusion but don't be surprised that less scrupulous suppliers might see our weaknesses as areas of opportunity for them especially when this board for example pronounces that we are queuing up to buy boxed sets at £500/$750. After all we've seen what's been happening on e-Bay with scarce early SACD's from Sony and Philips.

What's a few more quid/dollars here or there?

Make sense?

So, no facts? I've given you the benefit of the doubt, and a chance to silence your accusers, but perhaps that benefit of the doubt was misplaced and you do have something to hide, after all? FYI, I've spent over $3,800.00 USD on SACDs over the past 4 years, $111.00 of it at Elusive Disc. Do the math.

Companies like Elusive Disc, Music Direct and Analogue Productions who pride themselves on keeping large inventories of SACD (and Vinyl) in stock, always charge more (plus shipping). I own a business and even well~heeled individuals do NOT want to be taken advantage of. When a boxed set of SACDs costs as much as a Sony 5400 player, something is definitely amiss. As Zeus has said time and time again: Record Companies can charge whatever they like and you, the individual do NOT have to buy it. I have NO interest in the Solti Rings so I naturally, will not invest in this lavish undertaking but I really think that price gouging during a worldwide recession is counterproductive. I will continue to buy new and used SACDs from Amazon (US) but will not cater to Price Gougers.

Is that all? You've got a long way to go to catch up with many here. Maybe a few extravagantly overpriced Ring sets will help close the gap! (PS. I won't be buying one. I find the whole leitmotiv thing pretty tiresome.)

It's all about disposable income. I congratulate those who can and do spend more. I didn't know this was a contest. Once again, though, you missed the point, which was about the substantial loss of sales, relative to total money spent, due to pricing.

Make sure when you're buying Xmas presents for the kiddies to ask each and every sales rep what their buy price is, what their overheads are, how much he/she earns, what car she/he drives, how much they spent on advertising, what their business plan is. Better still, get in an auditor to look over their books. I wouldn't walk out of the store unless I was entirely satisfied that I wasn't being gouged on that pack of coloured pencils.
