As for the BIS correlation, it's interesting to notice that the trolls here seem to come from neighboring Nordic countries. That in turn could be explained by some subconscious defense mechanism against what they perceive as an attack on the recording standards of a company which they're so proud of. Or it could be just a coincidence...

Maybe we here in the Arctic are more rational and see through the marketing BS better than you southeners. We also have high level of education and engineering knowledge.

Trolls are creatures from the North. Look at the pictures and you'll understand why they don't hear so well

Trolls are from the North, but not all people from the North are trolls, so please let's not make it a "north vs rest of the world" thing.

Trolling from Wikipedia:

"The contemporary use of the term is alleged to have first appeared on the internet in the late 1980s, but the earliest known example is from 1991. It is thought to be a truncation of the phrase trolling for suckers. That phrase is itself derived from the fishing technique of slowly dragging a lure or baited hook from a moving boat, waiting for fish to strike, a technique known as trolling."

Don't look like fishermen to me...

Lack of higher frequences and more harmonic distortion (in analog tapes), perhaps? Tape hiss in the backround gives artificial "ambience". Why do you think all major labels swithced to digital recording in the late seventies even before CDs or any kind of digital delivery were invented? Even if the recorders were Sony shoeboxes running at 14 or 16 bits at 48 kHz and connected to U-matic video decks for storage. Ease of editing? No. Future proof? No. Better quality than those huge Studer, Revox and Otari tape machines with state-of-the-art Dolby noise reductions provided? YES. Ask Tony Faulkner. Those words "Master Tape" sound so romantic, as romantic as those magnificent recorders look. The sad fact is that any 16/48 $300 digital pocket recorder is better in sound quality. It just does not sell.

They switched because digital is a lot cheaper than analog, both for recording and especially for editing. The best thing you can do is listen to tell the difference, and you ought to listen to Tape Project tapes (which are sourced directly from analog master tapes) and compare them to RBCD. Guaranteed - the tapes sound way better than RBCD.

How come? In those days you could edit analog with a pair of non-magnetic scissors and roll of scotch tape, for digital a very expencive digital editing station was needed.

Scissors and tape = 5 dollars
Digital edit station = 120000 dollars

Which one was cheaper?

Info on Wagner Ring Cycle SACD Box pricing

Dear SA-CD.net forum members, we were just made aware of the very large price discrepancy on this set by one of our customers in the UK. The $1499.99 retail price is what we were given by the Esoteric USA supplier(we did not make this price up)After some internet research we found our cost is higher than the retail prices we have seen around the world. We have emailed our supplier to find out what the story is. Stay tuned.

You forget about the biggest cost, the time of the folks doing the editing.
