I love the album but over $100 for what is essentially overkill and redundancy is pretty outrageous. La Traviata, it ain't! I certainly hope Capitol Records has the presence of mind to release the hi~rez Blu~Ray separately instead of what appears to be a DTS and DD DVD.

And an SACD version would be most~welcomed.

What do the record companies have against releasing SACD rock releases in 5.1?

Seems that DVD~A is indeed making a comeback for this very purpose, albeit, at a trickle.........and of course, Blu~Ray (which is 96/24 pcm)

Seems the format war never ended.....it just intensified!

Single disc versions of all PF albums will also be released on 27th of Sep.

Perhaps new remasters on some of the re-releases?

Dissapointed that they have abandoned SACD, as I have no use of Blu-Ray disc from the immersion set. I don't have the equipment and couldnt be bothered to buy new receiver and player. :(

Regards

LONDON, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pink Floyd and EMI Music, whose association dates from 1967, announce a comprehensive release schedule, to be launched on September 26, 2011, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, viral marketing, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album 'Best Of' collection.

The long-awaited 5.1 version of 'Wish You Were Here,' mixed by James Guthrie, will also be released in parallel via independent label Acoustic Sounds.

...that means AS will distribute the SACD,

Great news.

That's what I have been suggesting for the last years. When the big labels don't want to release SACD themselves, they should license the albums for SACD release to audiophile labels.

Does this means the Parson's quad mixes will only be released on the DVD and not on the high Rez blurry disc?

That's what it sounds like to me.

Of course I can't support the Blu-ray format for $100 when all I'm interested in is the Blu-ray disc for the HD surround mixes. If the SACD comes out via AS for $29.99 that's my route.

Not releasing stand alone Blu-ray versions is just about the dumbest thing EMI could possibly do here.
