I know about the one with the prism in the forest, 5.1 but a friend found one in NY that has a prism on top and a hand drawn pyramid from Capital and is claiming the mastering is better.

Anyone else able to confirm this?

Thanks,

Maybe your friend is referring to the promotional "Money" SACD single?

No I don't think so...

I have this one:

Does anyone know about this one:

Also available here so I don't think it's a misprint...

According to this Steve Hoffman forum thread, there is a US and a Japan pressing, which use slightly different covers:

And then there is of course the very different 5.1 or more likely 4.0 mix unfficially circulating on DVD-A -- supposedly Alan Parsons' original quad mix. Not sure if there is any artwork with these.

See, I have a lot of versions of DSOTM and have looked around (Crest pressing, Japanese pressing, Japanese import) -- and they ALL have the 'stained glass/forest' cover.

I've never actually seen one with the cover shown on CDUniverse, and i'd -bet- that if you ordered it, yo'ud just get the normal one...

I'd be interested in this too.. I highly doubt there are two masterings though...

"Original designer Storm Thorgerson contributed a new, subtly different album cover and a 20-page CD booklet that was a scrapbook of photographs and artwork associated with the album over the years."

"The cover design was created by a team of designers which again included Storm Thorgerson. The image is a photograph of a custom-made stained glass window, built to match the exact dimensions and proportions of the original. Transparent glass was used in place of the opaque colours of the original, held in place by strips of lead. The idea is derived from the "sense of purity in the sound quality, being 5.1 surround sound …" The image was created out of a desire to be "the same but different, such that the design was clearly DSoM, still the recognisable prism design, but was different and hence new …"
