Yes you are right, there would be a lot of prestige involved I guess. Currently I use http://www.prisjakt.nu/kategori.php?k=s41241991 (Swedish) to browse for SACD. It has a review function, but not that many SACD buffs use it to make it reliable. I would like something like that but with more experienced people.

I agree with others on this, It would be very difficult to do,apart from the points raised by Rammiepie above one would have to take into account such things as room furnishings, local ambient noise factors (I live near a city centre). Even if the same player is available worldwide and therefore suitable for review. I can just see some smart A** making the comment that it sounds better in a hot dry climate with a 240v electrical supply as opposed to a cool damp climate with a 110V supply. I would however like to be able to find out what is available locally. I am intrested in the Oppo models but have failed to find anyone locally who is a dealer.

Oppo generally does not sell through dealers. Theirs is an internet-based, direct sales model (supplemented by Amazon in the US), yielding major price benefits to consumers. They will ship the player with 30-day approval.

The old, esteemed dealer sales model the high end has employed for decades makes sense for certain bulky items like speakers and for those requiring extensive dealer support in setup. But, for a small piece of electronics like a player, the internet model rates high in my book. A tremendous amount of dealer markup is eliminated and in-home auditioning for 30 days is the best way to go for many. You cannot argue with success.
