Unless one is independently wealthy and/or a rabid collector, rather than spending a small fortune on OOP sacds, one should consider upgrading their existing system and enjoying the music they currently have. Better interconnects, power cables, brass feet beneath one's components and room tuning devices would be a better investment.....Spending hundreds of dollars for a single 45-80 minutes of music could yield upgrades that will reward the listener with hundreds of hours of pleasure.

i wish that was true! i will keep the top 20% of my CD/SACD collection and use a sound system costing only half, rather than adding 50% in dollar terms to my sound system and only have the other lower 80% of my collection! usually, oop hardware can be easily substituted, but oop software (CDs, SACDs and LP) is not that easy.

cheers,
wps

Perphaps DVD4MUSIC is not the only unreliable shop......Iam Afraid Amazon-France is fool me.
I order this Gardiner/Planets in 10Aug2009 at 25,90euros + 14euros ship to Brazil, and in the meantime the Amazon-France price increase to 30,98euros, then they do not ship me and give me a second period shall send to 12/14Sep2009. And Iam waiting biting nails, I hope Amazon-France honor the price of my 10Aug order (25,90euros).

>>> The image of the new price at Amazon-France site (this sale offer now was removed from the site).

Unfortunately, even if I spent a small fortune on better equipment, that would still not make my CDs multichannel. Perhaps I should spend money on a Dolby Pro Logic IIx/z processor?

Unless you bought the 100 or so DTS Entertainment CDs! Reminds me of the old saying: Are you a Wise Guy or a Boy Scout?"

I would agree that room treatments are a worthwhile investment, but I'm still puzzled as to why someone would be better off spending hundreds of dollars on snake-oil improvements, versus buying a new SACD that likely has state of the art mastering? (unless if you were kidding, of course)

Simply because most rooms are inadequate to properly convey the sound from one's equipment unless tweaks are implemented. A brilliant case in point......I just moved one of my Shakti holograms (sold by Music Direct) from the rear to the front and the improvement in EVERYTHING was utterly astonishing. Cost of a pair of Shakti Holograms: $1200--the price of some OOP SACDs on E~bay. Even RBCD sounds simply amazing.......because the holograms help focus the sound where it needs to be and buying a state of the art SACD to be played in a poor listening environment is hardly a solution. {I am not against purchasing new SACDs but rather this thread dealt with silly prices for Out of Print (OOP) SACDs which command thousands of dollars}.

And I really wish the word "snake oil treatments" would NOT be used for improvements that work but will NOT work for people who DON'T TRY THEM.......

Buy them for me and I will try them.

How about first trying tweaks you can do for free and then the ones that have 30-day money-back guarantees?

A better cognomen would be "Stubborn" Dutchman!

But let's be Christian, rammiepie..........After all, it's FD's loss, not mine!

{How's that for a bit of stream of consciousness?}

Stubborn? What does stubbornness have to do with it? You aren't willing to put your money where your mouth is and I'm just telling you what it would take. I shouldn't have to put out any money for something you are so adamant about. You are the one trying to convince others. I'm an objective scientist in all this. If I hear a difference, I will tell you.
