Stravinsky conducts Stravinsky. That's three.

If you had to pick a "most wanted to be released on SACD" wish list (3 items), what would they be? Just curious what everyone else dreams about.

1. Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum played by Jonathan Powell (Altarus).
2. Aribert Reimann's "Lear" (DG)
3. Guitarist Hubert Kappel's transcription of Bach's 6th Partita (GSP).

I wonder why most of you like to have older or classical titles.
Nothing against classical music, but I'd like to have more Soundtracks on SACD.
Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, The Village and so on.

If you have a universal player, it is well worth investing in the DVD-A of the entire Lord of the Rings Cycle....roughly five hours+ of music in brilliant surround. Only problem, they are sold with the accompanying cd's and are NOT sold separately at this time. They are also beautifully boxed. I'll throw in my SA-CD wishlist at this time:

(1) Barbra Streisand: The French Album (Michel Legrand conducting); Also the Broadway Album
(2) Anything by Tangerine Dream (a natural for surround)
(3) Cat Stevens superbly recorded albums on A&M (Mona Bone Jakon, anyone?) (4) The Fantasy Film World of Bernard Hermann (on London Phase 4)

1). Copland conducts Tender Land Suite; Appalachian Spring; Boston Symphony (RCA)
2). Berg Wozzeck and Lulu Suites; Dorati, LSO (Mercury)
3). The other three Tchaikovsky Orchestral Suites, each coupled with a Stravinsky ballet. Jurowski and the Russian National Orchestra (PentaTone)

Would not be releases of NEW music, but would be music newly released on SACD...

Harry Connick Junior - Start Turtle
Paul Simon - Graceland
James Brown - In the Jungle Groove

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
The Verve - A Northern Soul
Dave Matthews Band - Before These Crowded Streets

Damn, three wishes is nearly impossible.

Szell/Fleisher Brahms - great pick!

I'd like to see the Szell/Fleisher Beethoven concertos too.

Heck - the entire Szell catalog would nice to have.:)

Brand new pure DSD recordings from Telarc if possible, if not from another audiophile label of the following three Classical works:

DAUGHERTY, MICHAEL (1954-
Metropolis Symphony for Orchestra (1993)

MEIJ, JOHAN DE (1953-
Symphony No. 1 "The Lord Of The Rings" (1987)

PISTON, WALTER (1894-1976)
The Incredible Flutist: Ballet Suite for Orchestra (1938)

That would make me very, very thrilled indeed!

Lawrence,

Now there's a man with terrific taste -- mine!

How wonderful an SACD of Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall would be!

The Beatles of course became a studio band, so would SACD offer anything more than what a good receiver could do with a few decent soundfield settings?

But I have had the awesome pleasure of hearing MTT conduct SFSO in person a couple of times (one time with Renee Fleming doing the Four Last Songs -- God would I love to have THAT on SACD), and the subtlety and delicacy of his leadership is a dream in SACD, though I haven't heard any of his Mahler yet. Check out how he perfectly merges the orchestra (Berlin Phil) with Joshua Bell's performance in the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto -- I'm not claiming to point it out to you, as it's a celebrated recording -- and hear how you are putn right in the hall..

Cheers!

David Dorn
