I'd be happy if they just took a vintage 35DP-4 Japanese first pressing and transferred it directly from redbook to DSD :) - it would probably be better than a remaster!

In Surroundablog, it was stated that the artwork for the SACD of WISH YOU WERE HERE has already been completed and that last minute touches are being finalized by David Gilmore....it was originally announced for a Feb. '09 release, but apparently that was not the case. It should see the light of day soon.....lest we not forget, we are a patient bunch at sa-cd net as release dates and the final physical golden disc in our hands can mean up to a year's wait (witness the Analogue Records Blue Note releases.....they sound incredible but are taking forever to finally be released.)

rammie, i've heard equal number of rumors that it's been scrapped... that and I think the original release target was Feb 08, not Feb 09.

I can't understand why this hasn't been released, unless they feel there's no viable 5.1 format right now (in their opinion). I hope I'm wrong, I hope it's about to come.

I heard Animals was in the same status.

I've signed it as well but only 50 signatories so far...?

Still it's better than nothing and there's at least been an attempt to get EMI to move.

As for it happening?

IMHO no chance at all!

It's not that the demand isn't there or that any disaster such as trashing the Master Tapes has happened but down to Music Industry Politics.

I was speaking to a contributor to HiFi+ in the UK a few months ago and we were both tearing our hair out about only DSOTM having been released by the Floyd in SACD when other albums such as WYWH "Animals", "The Wall" and "Pulse" could be so staggeringly good in the SACD format. Anyway, the conversation soon revealed that unlike CD, SACD is a Political animal and that is the main reason there are such bother getting anything decent being released. He revealed to me that the mixes for most if not all the Floyd albums are done but a certain failed format manufacturer who partner EMI in Japan have blocked them. In all honesty it's probably out of jealousy rather than any commercial decision.

But sadly, whilst the Floyd can re-release a re-remastered box set on standard CD, there is nothing on SACD.

I would love to be wrong but I don't think I am.
