Hi All,

I'm relatively new to this forum, and this is my first time posting anything. I recently ordered eight SACDs from JPC. Having never purchased anything from a foreign merchant, I'm unfamiliar with US Customs and the duties that they apply to goods shipped to the US. Does anybody know if I will have to pay a duty on these discs? If so, how much does it cost? Also, how does one go about paying duty? Is it at the time of delivery? The reason that I ask is that I'm having the discs sent to a mailroom at my work where I won't be present at the time of delivery.

Sorry for so many questions! I appreciate any responses. Thanks!

I have been ordering for years from CDJapan and other than high shipping charges and a small fee applied to your credit card for "exchange rate transaction," I know of NO import charge that has been applied to any of my foreign transactions from Japan (unless they pay an export tariff at their end?????) Although some countries may be the exception to the rule (in England they have a VAT which is eliminated when shipment is made to the US).

The Audiophiles get a real easy life in the North America ! Here in Brazil we have to pay 100% of the total ship value (product price + freight + insurance) for CDs, Audio/Video equip. etc...
except books (only in paper) and magazines that are tax free.
What a vita facile per voi ...

You won't have to worry about any customs fees on your discs from JPC.

For the record, I believe the customs allowance is still $400 in value, and the fee is 10% of value above that.
