Terence, I'm not a native German speaker although I have quite a good ear for languages. My impression, having listened to a couple of native German speakers (with their various accents!) while comparing recordings with his, was that he articulated very well and it sounded pretty convincing to me - he must have had some good German coaches in his career. I could easily follow both the texts and score. Presumably we can enjoy a Winterreise from Prégardien soon as he seems to be working though the song cycles on SACD.
Cheers, John

Prégardien has a 2008 recording of this on Atma (regrettably RBCD only) in which he is accompanied by a wind quintet and accordion. Strange as it may seem, IMHO the accompaniment works very well and sheds new light on the work. Obviously not for everyone's taste, however.

I got it direct from the Melba Website and it reached the UK in 3 days, very reasonable air mail cost.

Yes, this version (which I have not heard) was very favourably received as one of the top choices when BBC Radio 3 compiled their Building a Library recommendations on Winterreise.
