Discussion: Mozart: Flute Concertos - Bezaly

I was briefly in Germany yesterday and at a large Saturn store picked up a copy of this (including the BIS catalogue, a booklet as thick as a jewel case) for EUR 6.99. It sounded to me like a great bargain. It still does, even now I've noticed it's a special promotion from BIS, also available on Amazon favourably (but mostly on Amazon Germany, not sure why).

Well, that version was replaced with Mozart: Complete Works for Flute & Orchestra - Bezaly so it was obviously a clerance price.

No, not quite so obviously!

It was a version that we recorded and sold in a package only: together with a Complete Catalogue of BIS products in a slipcase for an attractive price. We sold some 50'000 of it, as an SACD Hybrid in this package. Having sold it out, we didn't repress it, but recorded, much later, the Flute/Harp Concerto as well, also with newly-composed Cadenzas by Kalevi Aho and then sat biting our nails to the quick to see whether it would fit onto the CD layer of a new Hybrid.
Boy, were we lucky - we had some 20 seconds to spare to the theoretical maximum of 82'30".
Then the new SACD was released. The old one had then been sold out for a long period, no clearance here, unless you call the initial great price "clearance"....

Best - Robert

Only just now I noticed the remark on the back of the jewel case stating "This SACD must only be sold at budget price and in conjunction with the BIS catalogue."

It seems (vendors selling through) Amazon.de obey this rule but in other countries they don't.
