You might find http://www.millenniumofmusic.com/history.php. interesting. Recent programs featured traditional music from Norway, which can be listened to via their streaming audio.

The description of a recent program that I found of particular interest is:

The Hardanger Tradition--Much has been written about this haunting national folk instrument--in a recent recording, Knut Hamre and Bendicite Maurseth perform on the earliest surviving original fiddles from Hardanger, using the 17th and early 18th century repertoire for which these instruments were built.

Very interesting. Of course, I have heard quite a bit of music like that, but I am not interested enough to recognise those pices or songs.

My impression is that the norwegian fiddle where mostly used in a more up-beat happy dance setting. 1-3 fiddlers playing and stepping the beat. And maybe the ungest men impressing the girls by kicking a hat off a tall stick (Hallingdans)

Crazy idea. Probably after drinking moonshine, also an norwegian tradition.

Loock at these clips:
Young woman playing the fiddle:

Hallingdance:

This one with a "twist":

And hallingdance used to create fighting effects in online role playing game
"Age of Conan" (only norwegian comments)

The NRK 5.1 Internet radio have been streeming since Oktober 2006!

NRK is a goverment driven, non comercial radio and TV broadcaster. Everyone that owns a TV i Norway must pay a 333$ licence fee a year. Regardless if you are looking at NRK TV or even if its possible to receive NRK TV where you live. It is a fee for owing a TV.
