Anybody seen/know of any particularly good deals in the USA on for new Bowie Reality SACD? I've seen it listed for release as the same day and date (09-16-03) as the regular CD, advertised most places at $11.99

Hi Don,

Can you post the places selling the Reality SACD? I've only found it on Amazon.

Online places I've seen it so far include http://www.circuitcity.com (where it currently appears to be un-orderable for whatever reason), http://www.amusicdirect.com/, and http://www.cduniverse.com

Note that the SACD version appears to be currently unavailable. According to Brian Moura, the 'new' release date is 11-04-03. Dammit!

The later release of the SACD version seems consistent with the previous record, Heathen......

Thanks Don--I checked the official Bowie news site, and it says the SACD version of Reality will be out Oct. 7.

The latest MusicDirect newsletter has the following comment at the bottom:

"David Bowie's Reality SACD has been indefinitely postponed."

Hey thanks, great news. I'm really interested to see this statement at the Bowie site (assuming www.davidbowie.com) but couldn't find it. Do you have the URL which points to where this is?

thanks!

Yeah, it's www.bowiewonderworld.com/bowienews/news.htm

It's one of his official sites, you can order CDs and DVDs there.

I hate to say it, but having listened to a preview copy of REALITY, it's a bit of a disappointment. There are a few songs that sound cloned from HEATHEN, and then there's some really strange stuff like on the last track. Overall, the production quality is still very high.

It's an important distinction that my thoughts about the album were based on a redbook version of the album, and that I had the same negative reaction to HEATHEN when I heard the redbook. Only after hearing the SACD version of HEATHEN did I appreciate the album.

When I get a copy of the SACD, I'll write a review on this site.

More conflicting stories concerning the SACD release of Bowie's "Reality" on High Fidelity Reviews (see link below).

Just finished listening to the redbook CD (I ordered the SACD version, but got sent the regular CD instead: BEWARE! Don't buy any used SACDs from the Amazon payments program!).

That aside, this is the most ProTools-sounding Bowie album since "Earthling", half the songs sound like they were pieced together from various bits, rather than composed organically as unified songs. In contrast to most reviews on it that I've read, this is not a live sounding recording at all.

Unlike most Tony Visconti productions, there is not much room ambience here, except perhaps "Bring Me The Disco King", the last cut. The drums sound very processed, perhaps with TC Electronics samples.

The upshot is that the SACD mix will be interesting--a benchmark of how a predomininately Midi-sounding release will sound in super-high resolution.

How can you buy a used copy of a SACD that hasn't yet been released? :-).

BTW, the "Image URL" slot is for images, not links. If you want to include a link, just put it in the text as is, preferably on a line of its own. The display logic will wrap html around this automagically. This is what computers are for!
