No wireless speakers that you can recommend ...yet

Is it possible with currently available wireless routers (or whatever) to feed a signal from my Bel Canto Pre-6 (Aside-Why did you return that to the manufacturer rather than buy it? What did you replace it with and in what way is that new one better?) to (say) a set of five Bel Canto Ref 500s connected via short cable to an appropriate speaker.

Actually many would be happy to serve only the pair of rear speakers with a wireless solution, retaining a conventional set up for the front 3.

Yet means that there are products coming to the market in the next year that will address the wireless issue with solutions that do not compromise quality, in principle. We will, of course, have to await their actual appearance to see how well they do.

None of them, btw, will come anywhere near the budget points of the OP.

As for the Pre6, my solution is that, since I have FM as my only non-digital source, the Meridian Ref861 fills my needs. Also, the Parasound P7 is on the shelf that used to be occupied by the Pre6 and the review of that is in press.

However, you need an SACD/universal player and the least expensive decent one is the Oppo 980H.

I found, before returning my Oppo 980H, that there was no audible benefit to the 980H over the DV-48AV and the latter was $99 from Vanns versus the $169 Oppo.

Very possibly. I have never used the DV-48 but I found the analog outputs of the DV-58 superior to those of the Oppo 980H.

Here's the one I'm considering:

DAV-HDX275

Let me know what you guys.. doesn't look like it plays DVD-Audio though.

My goal is to find a nice medium between cheap and decent. This is the best place to ask so I figured I would ask here.

Features I need: just SACD playback

Features I'd like: wireless speakers, HD radio, HDMI hookups.

Any help? This is actually much more difficult to research than I thought it would be.

Dear PhrostByte,
Let me suggest to you some low price equip. I like:
If you want just a Stereo SACD player ( no MULTI-C ), as I know today there is no other better option than a used SONY SCD-1, if your house can supply a 220volt mains line the sound is better than 120volts.
I think you wish a wireless headphone, if so, I recommend a Sennheiser.
As speakers I recommed the panel MAGNEPAN MG1.6QR (just under 1900 dollars pair) or the italian handmade SONUS-FABER Concerto Domus (two ways, just over 3000dollars pair), both are 4 ohms impedance and like a 100Watts plus Amp. Both again are Hi-End speakers, no Mid-Fi.
Good luck in this update.

Hello,

You may be laughing at me, but I tried to play some SACD disks (which I received as gifts) on the following equipment:
Pioneer DV 600 player
Kenwood KRF-V5070D receiver
Magnat Monitor 990 speakers

My problem is that I hear NO difference between the normal CD layer and the stereo SACD layer of the disks (which contain classical music). I know these components are "cheap", but I cannot spend more money on this (I am an employee in Eastern Europe).

Do you think it is normal that the SACD layer does not sound any better when played on the above machines? I expected to hear a clear difference. Was I wrong??? Thanks!

The difference between stereo PCM and DSD is certainly much more subtle than that between stereo and multichannel DSD and can require careful listening (and good demo material) to appreciate.

It takes many hours (perhaps years) of listening to live and recorded music to appreciate the differences. You need a reasonably quiet listening space too.

I still think budget systems can benefit from SACD.

Perhaps you are doing something to sabotage your SACD playback as I have found even in the lower prices there are still big differences between CD and SACD.

Here is an article I wrote with helpful tips to get the resolution off of your SACDs.

How to get the best from 2 Channel Stereo SACD and 50 recommended recordings.
