Discussion: La Tarantella - L'Arpeggiata/Pluhar

I see that La Tarantella (Alpha) is being released on November 1. I bought this CD about three months ago before I realised Alpha would be releasing on SACD. If you like something classically inclined but a bit off the beaten track I urge you to buy this!
It contains songs and instrumental pieces from Southern Italy that were supposed to drive out the poison if you were bitten by a tarantula. The singing itself is quite haunting, especially Marco Beasley. Let me say the sound in plain CD stereo is as good if not better than any of my SACDs!
Anyway I'm going to have to buy it again after three months (who said we weren't all loopy?)
Cheers
Nick

I enthusiastically second this recommendation. La Tarantella has actually been out in France since the end of the Summer, but it's now making its way around the world. As Nick and others will know, I am a big fan of the label Alpha, and in particular of their world music series (black and white photograph covers - "Les chants de la terre"), although the early music series (colour painting detail covers - "Ut pictura musica") has some truly excellent and unique things as well. Also, for it's worth, Alpha has some of the best packaging/booklets, with interesting essays about the music and paintings, interviews, and wonderful photography of the recording sessions.

I certainly hope there will be more SA-CDs from them, although I've seen no sign of any yet.

Also on November 1 three new Jordi Savall discs including one that I believe is brand new!
