Discussion: Sacred Feast - Gaudeamus

I just wanted to point out a quick correction to John Miller's otherwise excellent and comprehensive review: The performing ensemble is not actually the Trinity College Chapel Singers, but Gaudeamus itself which is a professional chamber choir (see http://www.chorusangelicus.org/gaudeamus.php ). My choir has combined with Trinity's for concerts, so I can assure you it's not them on this album :-)

Well, thanks for that - a little inside info reveals all! I read through the two sides of the meagre insert several times trying to glean information and it is very sketchy - mostly a biography of Paul Halley. The only mention of Gaudeamus is in a list of his current activities in CT. There is however, a paragraph on Trinity College, which says that the Trinity College Singers is the resident choir, a 25 member ensemble of Trinity College undergraduates. Given such prominence, anybody would be misled into thinking they were the performers! On the back of the insert, alongside a track list is a list of choir names, totalling 32 now I come to count them, but no name for the choir! The word Gaudeamus appears on its own on the front cover, but in such a way as to fool me into thinking this was a subtitle for the programme - quite a common title for many other choral revitals! All very confusingly presented - a trap for poor reviewers (and buyers) into which I fell completely. Now for some major surgery to the review - and I put 4 hours of writing into it!

Cheers,
John
