Hello,

I'm a new member and have a basic SACD related question...I own an inexpensive SONY DVPNS775V SACD player. I've used it for several years strictly as a DVD player but have since replaced it with a BluRay player. So now, I'd like to connect it to my stereo system, using a Classe integrated amp.

Question: How do I connect the SACD player to the amp? I cant use the digital outputs and I cant use the multi-channel analog outputs. So how do I get stereo SACD???

Thank you.
Scott

You use the LINE OUT L/R (AUDIO) jacks. This analogue output will supply you with the analogue signal from the disc you play, no matter if it is DVD, CD or SACD. It will do so in a quality that is limited to your players ability to handle the digital/analogue conversion for each format.

I took some time over the weekend and discovered that my SA-CD player can switch between multi-channel and stereo SACD processing. Pretty neat. I'm embarassed to admit that I was unaware that some SACD CDs offer stereo as well as multi-channel.

Nothing to be embarrassed of. You already have bigger knowledge of SACDs than people who sell hifi for living. Happy listening.

Exactly.

In fact, not only do you now have more knowledge than a lot of people that sell hi-fi, but also of people in general. The only people I know that have any knowledge of SACDs, are the people that I've educated - and that isn't that many!

By the time Christmas comes around, it'll be just 2 years since the arrival of my first SACD. Although having discovered the format late (and entirely by accident), I've learnt a lot about hi-res/multi-channel formats and new hi-fi.

You may already know, but some SACDs do not have a multi-channel mix. I know of at least one that is mono only, and I have several that are stereo only.

Happy listening.

Virtually all multichannel discs offer stereo as well. SACDs with multichannel only are rather rare (and then there are quite a few stereo-only SACDs).
