Forgive my greenness, but might someone please explain what, if anything, distinguishes the Japanese SACD releases of the Rolling Stones' catalogue from the earlier ABKCO issues?

ABKCO reissued the Rolling Stones titles as CDs, but kept the same barcode. Doing so is a surefire way of getting links to the items for sale removed from this site as there's no way to distinguish between the two. The Japanese versions are still SA-CD only, hence the links to these only.

But the two versions--ABKCO and Japan--are sonically identical?

Same bits (presumably). I've had less problems with Japanese pressings in my old player than those from Sonopress, but can't say that I can hear a difference.
