This is insane... $300 for a RBCD (16bit 44.1Khz) and it is not hi-rez... I'm sure their mastering is very good but this is just outrageous ... Sigh....

What does washing CD with de-ionized water has to do with sound quality? How often do we need to re-balanced the disc (after 10,000 rotations?)?

First Impression Music Ultimate Disc - The audiophile F.I.M. label has handcrafted a set of two custom optical discs string for demonstration purposes. Their “Ultimate Disc” (UD) combines a 24 karat gold pressing with Resonance Control Coating. It is directly burned from the master disc or hard drive, one at a time, then washing by de-ionized water, and finally dynamically balanced and tested with an average block error rate lower than 5 (220 is the industry standard). The repertory was carefully selected from the F.I.M. catalog, which includes many classic audiophile albums from other sources. Due to the expenses of handcrafting the two-disc set, the cost is $300 each. It has not been decided if the set will be released on the market.

I just paid an amount close to that for a ***used*** CD from 1985. And I already have 3 other versions of this CD....including a DSD-remastered version. Sigh....the curse of being a CD collector.

Yes totally and completely insane! There is a sucker born every minute I am sure one of those suckers would buy this CD.

Also this is a total insult from FIM as they make SACDs! If they were serious about making an ultimate disc it would be an SACD not a crummy 44.1kHz low resolution Redbook CD.

When is CD going to finally die so that this stupid stuff will end?

Finally a product that makes the Exton "Direct Cut" SACD series look less silly.

the same "suckers" who would pay $1000 for an "omelet" in Manhattan and $5000 for a hamburger in Vegas and $14,500.00 for a 1 meter pair of Tara Labs Zero interconnects!

It actually appears to be a variant of "CD-R technology;"
"UD means the “Ultimate Disc”, which is a combination of a 24 K gold CD with Resonance Control Coating (RCC), directly *BURNT* from the master disc/hard drive one at a time, ........"

That has been happening on a regular basis in Hong Kong. The "format" is called LPCD. All the major labels in HK (HK Sony, HK Universal, HK Warner Music and HK EMI) are issuing these instead of SACD....and they are more expensive than SACD. Take a look....

Just do a search on "LPCD" on this forum and this has been discussed before. So far, "LPCD" hasn't spread beyond HK. But you'll never know....

Presumably sticking two (or more) discs into the burner would have given inferior results ... at least for all but the bottom one.

Snake oil continues to appear in many different forms. It's the emperor's new clothes all over again.
