I got it last week and I strongly recommend it. The piano and the orchestra sound wonderful. There are lots of detail: you can hear and "see" through the orchestra and you can hear all the nuances and interjections of the piano. The lows are powerful and the highs are extended and clear, wih the exception of 2 or 3 ocasions, where I detect some congestion on orchestral tuttis. The sound is more analogue-like than the the sound of the Decca SACDs released by Universal Japan some years ago. Curzon's playing is very delicate, which I think is very appropriate for these concertos. The packaging is similar to the packaging of the xrcd's from Japan. I hope this will be the first of a (long) series of Decca SACDs from Esoteric.

Thank you for your review, could you tell where did you buy it? I've emailed some local japanese online store, but they replied they are not shipping anything outside Japan :(

A friend of mine bought it for me in a Tokyo store.

I underline Alexandre's comment: Fantastic recordings of great music! What a combination, two of my favourite Mozart concertos, Clifford Curzon, Britten and the wonderful Kenneth Wilkinson as sound engineer. The Esoteric-JVC-team achieved full-bodied, but also detailed and naturally sounding DSD-remasterings. Decca-sound at its best! Much better than the harsh and thin sounding, disappointing Universal-Japan-SA-CDs, which obviously are based on PCM-copies. When Universal dropped the SA-CD format, I lost my hopes, that we ever would get SA-CD versions from great recordings of the Decca analogue era. But if the Esoteric announcement becomes reality, we will get at least some of them. The next announced release is the Dvorak 9th with Kertesz.
As I have no friends who travel to Japan, I ordered my copy at Musicdirect.com. Boon and bane of the globalisation: I am glad that I got it, but the way from Japan to Chicagoand then to Europe, what waste of resources and money (shipping costs, duty).
If there would be any chance, that amazon could distribute these discs, it would be better in all respects.

Lucky you! Teac Europe in Gemany demands € 49,- plus shipping € 1,45. And till now they do not have it in stock. I hope I will overcome my impatience when the Kertesz/Dvorak will be released.

I think I will be lucky subscriber to the whole DECCA SACD series :)

PS I'm curious if we're going to see a review of Curzon/Britten Mozart Piano Concertos in new Gramophone...

hires,

all I can do I think is give you this contact e-mail eic@eic.com.pl ...but I'm afraid that if you're not from Poland they won't be able to sell it to you (they are Esoteric dealer for Poland only I guess), so maybe you should contact teac dealer in your country, or try to get it some other way... it's really worth it as both performance and sonics on this recording are 5/5
