The subtitle of this 2-SACD set is '200 Years Gewandhaus Quartet'. There are no 200 year-old recordings on it, but the last work was recorded 80 years ago! The other three recordings are one, two and three years old. Judging by Haydn: Famous String Quartets - Gewandhaus-Quartett, the sound will be excellent in the latter three.

I have their SACD of Haydn quartets which I can heartily recommend.
Based on the sound of that SACD, this string quartet has a sumptuous sound, without being as rich as the Alban Berg quartet nor as 'Viennese' as the Amadeus. They remind me of the Takacs sound, which I recently heard on their Antipodean tour.

A word of warning: the Trout quintet has no Scherzo and the variation movement is split into 2 tracks. I have contacted NCA about this and I am awaiting a response. If this historical account is not important, I have no hesitation in recommending this set which fills some large holes in the repertoire with winning performances.

Neither applause nor scherzo nor disc:
When I read your note at lunchtime, I had a strong hunch my copy would be in the mailbox when I got home.... Close, but no cigar. An envelope with packing slip but no discs awaited me. The adhesive on the envelope flap seemed a bit past its best-before date, i.e. not very adhesive. I notified the vendor and am back in waiting-mode, dang!
But maybe some postie between Malmo Sweden and here will be lured into the sacd habit....
