Polly,Is the Brahms a full string version?.It seems to be ambiguous on the case according to someone else plus the Brahms was recorded at much higher level..Sound bite download was difficult to form an opinion over 15 seconds.

Yes, it's full strings - I'll make that clearer in the review.

Hi and thanks,Its clear in your review just not clear on the product apparantly? Heard another snatch from the very beginning and it seems that there are two violas replaced a Cello in Schoenbergs tinkering of quintet. This is possibly a rescoring of that? Hence the different presentation.Double tinkering.
I actually liked the seperate bits of (T N) so will get it despite your comments and no recomendations.

TN was originally scored for string sextet, not quintet - a copy of this score can be obtained via http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page (depending on residency, one can legally download this - copyright laws vary); it has some very fine scores available for free...

Sorry its got confusing but I was referring to the Brahms quintet.According to my friend who is trying to make some sense of the liner notes ? which may indicates that Schoenberg orchestrated the Brahms.Well it Could be the notes or it could be my mate.
Either way disc will arrive soon.

The International Music Score Library Project is a very useful website. I recently downloaded Bartók Quartets 1 & 2, but Quartets 3, 4, 5 & 6 are 'blocked':
"While PD [public domain] in Canada, this work is copyright in the USA until Jan. 1, 2025".
Quartet n° 3 was published in 1929 (reprinted in 1939) and I am IN CANADA. So much for 'residency'.

PS: anyone in a position to help here?:
"Urgent Request
IMSLP is urgently looking for people with servers who are willing to host a public mirror of IMSLP. If you are interested, please e-mail me (feldmahler {at} imslp.org) with the disk space/bandwidth limits. Server must be in Canada or the US. Reasonable compensation may be given if requested. --Feldmahler
Update: Thanks for all the responses! Since several people asked, I will say here that IMSLP requires ~50GB of space, and ~2.5TB/mo of bandwidth."

Thanks for very usefull link,
I followed it through to the Brahms quintet and actually found the Vegh recording listed.
It would still give the impression that it was the original version as a quintet.
Even more rediculous are the Liner notes from the disc (which Ive now read)
Its no wonder anyone gets confused as Schoenberg is mentioned twice in the write up on the Brahms quintet and you could interpret this write up in a few ways.
Even so there is no mention of who ? scored the arrangement or even that it actually is an upscaled arrangement in the booklet.I pressume its a rough translation from the German.
Disc should arrive soon.
