Assuming Hybrid SACD is not important to me in this case (since I've already got an RBCD of this album) and I don't mind about Super Jewel Box versus Digipack or similar carton either, which of these two SACD versions would you recommend?

Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto: Getz/Gilberto
Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto: Getz/Gilberto

Based on the reviews posted I find it hard to make a decision.

I think there were some comparisions posted on the Steve Hoffman forum (search for "UCGU")

Japanese remasterings all the time baby!

All the SACDs I have from this series sound extremely good (considering the vintage source material, some from the early 50's). But since the single layer SACD of Getz/Gilberto already sounds fine (unlike some other Verve SACDs), I did not buy the new hybrid one.

Apparently the old SACD is a remix from the 3-track tapes, while the new SACD used the stereo mix-down tape.

The Japanese is the newer one.

If Astrud Gilberto's voice is coming from your right channel then you do not have what many consider to be THE source tape. It was mentioned above that this topic has been discussed in the Hoffman forums, and this is correct.

As a matter of consolation, there are only a few of the many versions released that did, in fact, use the correct tapes; all are long OOP. Have not heard the Japan SACD so I do not know whether it is correct. The version sold in the USA is not correct, and pales by comparison to the original Red Book CD that was made from that tape.
