Discussion: Beethoven: Complete Piano Works Vol. 6 - Brautigam

Delighted to see that this is finally on its way. The hiatus between releases has been too long! The earlier releases have been superb. Really fine piano playing (or should I say fortepiano playing, although the pianos used have real body) and really fine Beethoven.

The next one (BIS-SACD-1573) has Waldstein, Appassionata, + Op. 54, 79, 79and will be out in July of 2008.

Vols 7 (BIS-SACD-1612) + 8 (BIS-SACD-1613) have been recorded this Summer, but no release date as yet. Vol 7 has Hammerklavier (and the Producer is lifting off the ground when he talks about it) plus Opp. 81a + 90 and Vol 8 has Opp. 101, 109, 110, 111.
"

From the contents list that Zeus has now provided for this disc, BIS-SACD-1573, it seems not to have the Waldstein, sonata 21. Is this correct?
Perhaps all five sonatas could not be accomodated onto the one disc and the Waldstein is now to be released on a later disc?

Like the rest of the series, this is a very welcome release and an essential purchase!

Absolutely correct, you were much more observant than I - in fact Nos 19 and 20 aren't out yet either. Bissie, what's up (not that I am upset that we are finally getting another volume)?

Sonatas 19 & 20 are on volume 2, BIS-SACD-1363.

If you're not limiting yourself to SACDs, don't overlook the Richard Goode on Nonesuch. They're well recorded and are truly great performances.

I don't quite know what you have read, but Vol 6, BIS-SACD-1573, which I am holding in my hand, says Sonatas 21-25 for a total of 73'04 mins.
Sonata 21 is Waldstein and 23 is Appassionata.

Sic est.

Best - Robert

Good news and thank you. The description of the disc on this web site has missed out sonata 21, something for Zeus to fix.
I hope to have the disc in my hands, in the UK, in a month or so.

I saw it listed on HMV JP without 21. Maybe a mistake was made when communicating the content of the disc to retailers.
