I am new to SACD. Why is my subwoofer output so low or non-existent? Is there a way to adjust? Help!!

Lots of multichannel recordings don't use it. Depending on your player, you may be able to enable bass management to redirect bass to your sub (by setting your speakers to "small"). You may even be able to set the crossover point. An alternative is to use an external device to do the bass management, or maybe the receiver itself. It's a complex area not without trade-offs ... somewhere. Maybe someone with more experience can help.

yes, have a look if the recording is 5.0 or 5.1. if it is 5.0 then there is no subwoofer signal at all.
best wishes

If your player allows you to change your speaker size to "small", it may also allow you to adjust the relative decibal level of the speakers.

For instance, if the front and rear speakers are adjusted to -5 and the subwoofer to +5, this gives a 10 db difference.

The problem on many 5.1 rock SACD's is that each recording has a different bass level, so unless you are constantly adjusting the player (which is not the easiest thing to do), you will either have too much or too little bass.

Sub output on most SACD players is 10-15 dB down from what it should be. This is (allegedly) to prevent overloading the player's output circuitry when all speakers are set to small, and all the bass is routed to the sub output. If you have large speakers (at least up front) you can use the player's setup menu to boost the sub output. I set my center, front and rear down by 4 and the sub up by 10 on my Sony player. That gives me the 14 dB I require. YMMV. Another alternative is to use an Outlaw Audio ICBM to manage the bass.
