I recently purchased the Sony SCD-C2000ES. It is my first SACD/CD player. Would like some input on these two players. I am using it a 2-channel only situation for redbook CD and SACD. Does anyone have experience with both of these players? I can trade this Sony in on a Marantz but it would cost me over twice as much. Does the Marantz have better sound quality to justify its added cost?

THE SONY HAS MUCH BETTER SACD PLAYBACK

I have had the Sony player in question, and a Marantz 8260, nearly identical to Marantz 8001. I far prefer the Marantz players to the Sony. The Marantz players can be improved thru modifications, and the Sony cannot. The Sony has an opamp at the output of each channel. If you like the sound of this opamp, then the Sony is fine for you. Marantz has a much warmer sound, in stock version, though this can be changed. The Sony player initially has a bit of a bright and thin sound. The Sony player will improve a bit in the first 6 months, so give it some time.
As in the 2 posts thus far to your initial question, opinions will vary with personal experience.

I have had the unit less than a week and it has already hung up on a CD-R. I think I'm going to return it and get the Marantz.
