Blu-Ray (dual layer):
- Stereo Linear PCM 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 Linear PCM 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 Dolby True HD 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 DD 48kHz

Lindberg can you explain this to me? Why would DTS HD Master Audio be better than Linear PCM? Do you say that because of the use of PS3/receiver combination that could anyway not render a good enough Linear PCM?
Can you also technically explain the difference between the encodings? What is added in the DTS/Dolby True HD versions? It always sounded like artifacts to me.

In theory the LPCM, DTS MA and Dolby THD should sound the same, as the two latter are lossless compression. We have provided all three on this BD to get a large scale test of “theory”.

Lindberg,

I would be careful with that statement about PCs. They *should* play and many of them will but there are ones (for instance with early DVD drives) that are known to have problems with hybrid SACDs. There are threads about that issue here from a while ago.

Nice design by the way. It seems you missed the DSD logo though?

Also, did you find it odd to write "1 bit / 2822 kHz", which would have been consistent with the other notations?

As far as I know the incompatibility of HYBRID SACD only applies to one model Sony DVD-RW drive combined with one specific firmware, so you could turn the responsibility of incompatibility the other way around and point at the drive or driver manufacturer?

Placing a DSD logo on the packaging should refer to the source format, and as this is a DXD recording it would be wrong to make use of the DSD logo.

Hmmm ... Interresting, and it's not to late to change as the artwork is not due for printing until Monday. Any objections from other SA-CD.net-users?

Is that so? I'm aware there have been RBCDs released with DSD logos on them simply because they were derived from DSD masters but I find this a very misleading practice.

Yes; the confusion around the use of the DSD logo is widely abused by record labels not willing to put their money into the quality.

I think it's quite appropriate for Morten to place a 'DSD' logo on the front cover.
I'm going to write a review of his 'Mirror Canon' release this weekend. This is a DXD release, and the sound of the piano really is quite amazing. It sounds at least as good as the Polyhymnia DSD piano recordings on my system eg the Caro Mitis Beethoven piano sonatas SACDs, or the Kodama PentaTone Beethoven Op 31 sonatas SACD.

I think the main problem in doing a comparison at the moment is that there are audiophile SACD players available now but no decent standard Blu-Ray players and processors available yet.....Please correct me if I am wrong....

The advantages to both are that you can use HDMI for a full digital delivery. As there is no video involved, you don't care about synch issues.

For a "good" Blu-ray player, I would think the Denon DVD-3800BD would be a good place to start. Hooked up with HDMI to the Denon combo of the AVP-A1HDCI and the POA-A1HDCI should satisfy "audiophile" criteria I would think.

Marantz too will have their BD8002 out shortly as well, not sure on the list price. The Denon is $1,999 but they also have a Blu-ray transport out too which is around $1,199.

I received my copy today and found the Bacewicz piece to be a pleasant surprise. Great!

How impressive must the original 24-bit 384kHz sampled recording sound? When will that be heard in the home?
