Hi together,

I am new to the SACD world and would like to ask you for a help concerning what player is good for a newbie. With the search engine I couln't find a thread. My interest is 2.0 stereo and not surround (not enough space). I ask myself if a SACD only player is maybe better than a multifunctional player. The price could be up to 1000 Euro, if it is less I wouldn't be dissapointed. :)

Many thanks for any help !

Cheers

What do you think of the Harman Kardon DVD 47 or 48. The 47 can be found on eBay for about $140 US, I have one and enjoy it.

I can think of a handful of players that will outperform the Accuphase. To name only two the Emm Labs Meitner and the DCS are much more transparent.

Sure there are better players then this Accuphase.
What I wanted to say:
* In the german magazine "Audio", the Accuphase was ranked with 140 points
* I gave this number, just for the comparison with the Pioneer
* The other CD/SACD players, like EMM etc., are (still) not tested.

Ask some of the studios like Polyhymnia about the Meitner equipment - they use it in their recording (the A to D) and in monitoring (The D to A) this info is available on every PentaTone recording I have bothered to check. From that one would infer that it is pretty darned good, and I would trust professionals like them to obtain the finest they could rather than what some magazine writes about it.

Thanks you for information and help, it is appreciated.

About music: My interests have changed during the time. I am open to many music, except Radiopop, Hip Hop, Rap, Techno and german Folk-music (that Bavarian crime) and german Schlager. Lately I listen a lot to classical music, orchestral and opera and bands like Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Mono or women like Kari Bremnes.

Omnisat System --> I called one of the local german dealers listed on the homepage for price information. He told me Mirage has changed the distribution in germany, so he couldn't help me. Could one of you please tell me how much this system costs ?

The 5:1 systems I listened to in the past were from friends who bought cheap stuff and so they sounded. I am a vinyl collector and never thought about 5:1, 2:0 stereo always was fine to me. But I am open to give it a hearing test. But right now it wouldn't make sense, my room really is too small. Anyway, the move is planned.

Harman Kardon 47 --> True, you get it cheap in the States. But right now no seller is willed shipping to Europe. Not to forget the possible expensive "custom drama" that I know from vinyl buys in the States. In Germany the cheapest one is 289 Euro, what makes 427 green bucks.

But I ask myself another thing about those multifunctional allplayers: Isn't it better to buy a player that concentrates on one or maybe a few function(s) ? I am sure you achieve more quality that way, because they put all energy to make the SACD sound the best they can. Examples could be the mentioned Pioneer D9 or the Denon DCD-1500AE. With an allrounder you lose for sure quality, because SACD only is one possibility among many. Or sounds this too old-fashioned instead or logical ? :)

Hello,

by chance a friend offered me a Sony DVP NS 900V. He bought it around 2003. Searching the net I found it was an excellent one in it's days. I can test it and get it for little money if I like it. Will get it soon (we don't live close).

Does anyone of you know this Sony and can give me an opinion ?

Thanks and cheers
Kai

Hi:

I just bought a Pioneer DVD 58AV the European model appears to be DV-LX50. This is a universal player. Excellent sound from sacd and cd. Well made. It defaults to two channel sound for sacd or dvda.

Michael,

Although it defaults to two channel - is there an option for MCH?

I downloaded the manual and there is an option to set SACD defaulting to MCH.

Also, according to the manual, the speaker distance settings have no effect on SACD playback. There is no speaker level adjust for the 5.1 analog.

Hi Windsurfer:

Yes you can set it to MCH. Actually there is button on the front of the machine where you can switch between stereo and MCH SACD.
