I think I just found another one: "The Very Best of Diana Krall".

Label: "Sony-Philips". Yeah, right.

The worrying trend: these things now turn up on Amazon as well?

It is almost certainly a fake: not an SACD at all but a red book CD with an SACD logo, like all titles discussed in this thread. Chinese vendors can be quite unscrupulous with these things.

Offers on regular eBay.com are also a risk. Many sellers use the template data provided. For a number of albums apparently only the SACD data is there so they use that.

Nearly everytime I see Groove Armada: Vertigo and I ask the seller it turns out it's the RBCD. The one I asked this week didn't even seem to know what SACD was so the ignorance surely fosters the confusion here.

So far I have not been disappointed with my SACD purchases from eBay but I'm careful.

That’s definitely the way to be. This reminds me of when I tried to order Kitaro’s Kojiki SACD from an Amazon Marketplace seller. What attracted me, apart from it being “like new”, was it was the cheapest and the seller had good ratings. Before placing my order, I decided to check with the seller that it definitely was the SACD. I got a quick reply back, apologising that he’d mis-listed it! I did exactly the same on the Amazon US Marketplace last week when I saw Buena Vista Social Club DVD-A listed. This time, though, the seller confirmed it was indeed that item. I’ll know tonight when I get home, as I’ve just heard that it arrived in the post earlier today!

Like you, I‘ve had good experiences with eBay - and luckily Amazon also. Long may it last!

I just saw this item advertised on eBay: "U2 SACD, Japanese, ultra-rare!"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260453404919

Of course, as soon as I saw the picture I knew this thing wasn't Japanese but Chinese, and not an SACD but some fake, most likely RBCD. As it turns out, it's not even 'The Joshua Tree' but 'U2 18' i.e. the singles collection!

The description gets totally confusing with terms like "DVD Audio" and "dual disc". The confusion may be sincere and the guy may not have a clue what he's talking about but surely he must have acquired the disc before selling it?

Sure enough, the disc has all the familiar labels the Chinese like to stick on it: DSD, XRCD, HDCD, and so on.

Stay far from it! (Except if you're after it for its mere curiosity)
