Hi everyone,

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all, particularly to zeus for building and maintaining this site like he does (although as a suggestion, maybe the pastel yellow borders could be replaced with a similar depth of blue or green...?)

So far, I'm most looking forward to the supposed release of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" in February as well as the possibility of more of my favorite albums and artists from the 70's and 80's coming down the pipe.

This year, however, I finally realized just how incredibly sensitive I am to audio quality and hence, I became aware of SACD's as well. Thankfully, my efforts to subject my colleagues, friends and family to hi-res playback appears to be time well spent. In hopes that word will spread like wildfire, they are often intrigued after hearing samples of "Dark Side Of The Moon", "Avalon" and "Gratitude" even in 2-channel (I'm sadly lacking a multichannel receiver and speakers. Oh, but when I get it...*sigh*)

As the optimist I've always been, I refuse to believe that SACD is going away, regardless if it's Sony's job to nurture it anymore or not. The same goes for DVD-Audio, in fact. I enjoy both and will continue to expand my hi-res library, especially with the challenges that out of print titles bring. Considering the who's who of catalogues that remain untouched by multichannel hands (ahem, like the Beatles!), it's apparent to me that Sony is not yet finished with its mission. In the end, it's time (and money) well spent.

With that, here's to 2008 *raising a glass to all of you*

As always your posts are welcomed and encouraged.

Cheers,

Dan

Also due in Feb 2008 is the MFSL hybrid SACD of "Doolittle" by the Pixies. The Mobile Fidelity website is now carrying the info for this one, which I am looking forward to. I hope that Pink Floyd SACD does get released in Feb, I'd love to have that one also. What other SACD releases have folks heard about for 2008?

The third Genesis SACD boxset and a new Sony "re-performance" SACD.

In the year 2008,

SACD will strengthen its presence as the de-facto multichannel audio format.

More and more audiophiles will look into building a multichannel audio playback system in their homes and SACD will become a very successful disc format for especially the classical music enthusiasts.

BIS, Pentatone, Linn, Chesky, Opus3, Ondine etc. have invested a lot into mastering the craft of recording multichannel acoustic music and they will be rewarded with increased SACD sales.

Any more details on this "re-performance" SACD?

Yummy.

My expectation for 2008: millions more new PlayStation3 owners will find out about Super Audio CD but once they do, will find very little content that matches their musical interests, to their disappointment.

It's not too late for record companies to start catering to this sizeable market but they better get started quickly.

I would expect more release from RCA to continue their Living Stereo series.

Any rumors about their next batch?

Has anyone heard anything more about a SACD ROM drive and/or software for PC or Mac? If consumers can now have DVD-Audio in their cars and Creative Labs can make a device to allow DVD-Audio playback over a 5.1 computer speaker setup, then what's holding back SACD with becoming more accessible outside of the home theater room, or in my case, what my wife refers to as the "living room"?

Sony, are you listening?

DVD-A playback on the PC makes more sense than SACD playback because DVD-A is also a home *recording* format. If you can record in hi-rez PCM and burn a DVD-A on the PC, it would not make sense not to be able to play the DVD-A on the PC.

My hopes for 2008 would be:

- that those labels which currently license their jazz or pop oldies for release on expensive 45rpm vinyl would also license them for SACD reissue. This is not very likely though.

- that Pentatone will be able to license quad recordings from other labels, for RQR reissue

- that there will be more Sony SACD reissues in Japan, like the recent Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock JSACDs
