Mute records has remastered the albums of the german group Can.
Monster movie
Soundtracks
Tago Mago
Ege Bamyasi
These will be Hybrid SACD.
Release date Nov.30th.
Each of these discs has been remastered as a Hybrid SACD from the original tapes, achieving the sound quality the first CD versions lacked.
Here is a question asked by exclaim! (a canadian free press music newspaper)to
Keyboardist Irmin Schmidt about why they went with SACD.
"What made you decide to repackage the albums using SACD technology?"
The main reason for the remastering was,for the first release in 1989,there
had been some tinkering. That's why they never sounded like the original vinyl.
For this we went back to the original sound as it had been recorded, except some
de-noising,which for the first time brings out subtle details, environmental sounds, etc. Also, this new technology allows much wider dynamics.

All these titles are listed here:

Unfortunately "can" is a common word and is ignored by the search logic.

Whilst enjoying a week in the world capital of culture (well maybe not now) aka Vienna I picked up the following info from the VPO:

BMG are to release Bruckner 5 with Harnoncourt & VPO in February 2005 in Japan - not sure about worldwide release. A symphony that really demands SACD if ever there was!

More "politically" interesting, the VPO have Harnoncourt recording the Verdi Requiem this week for *DG*. It is not clear to me if this will be an SACD but even by DG´s standards, they would have to be pretty dopey not to take this chance. I get to see them perform it on Saturday.

nin.com reports that The Downward Spiral (Deluxe Edition), which was just released on SA-CD and DualDisc (with DVD-A and Dolby Surround mixes), is only the first NIN record being mixed for multichannel. The new album, With Teeth, is set for simultaneous multichannel (presumably including SA-CD) release. Also, Reznor will remaster/remix The Fragile, Broken/Fixed, and possibly Pretty Hate Machine (depending on legal issues).

Apparently the Bruckner 5 will be released in the UK in January 2005.

One presumes that the Mahler 6 is conducted by Fischer, although the Web site doesn't say.

The Gents doing the Durufle Requiem is interesting. I wonder if they will augment their group to full choir? Full orchestra? Probably not, though still a beautiful piece.
