Discussion: Keb' Mo': Just Like You

I got this disk because I have some friends who are Keb' Mo' fans, and I can see why they love him. He plays and sings the blues delightfully, and it sounds just fine in stereo.

However, the surround-sound mix is out of character with the music. The album shows sepia-tinged photos of the man playing acoustic guitar in a "down-home" setting, like this is the natural blues. But in surround we hear the weirdest accoustics: in some tracks the voice has reverb while the instruments don't. In one track we hear Keb' Mo's guitar as though it is sitting in our lap, but his voice is coming from the front speaker. On other tracks we have instruments coming from the front, the back, and the sides as though we are in the middle of the band. The multitracking recording technique is so obvious that it detracts from the soul of the music.

Just stick to the MORE natural stereo..add it to the list of surround failings..
Then try to get the rest of his and Eric Bibbs albums

Thanks for the suggestion, Raffells. I see one other Keb' Mo' disk on this site, but I can't find any from Eric Bibbs. Are they OOP?
