Thread: Why can't players stop at track end?

The subject says it all. It bugs me that while listening to a great piece of music I can't press a button on the remote to tell the SACD player to stop when it gets to the end of the track. Players all seem to have a button to go into random play and other absurd modes, but what I usually want is a polite stop at the end of the track. Oh, I know that one can "program" the player, but my typical situation is that I realize I have to bring my listening to an end, and I dont want to stop in the middle of the track, nor do I want to have to lunge for the remote just when I get to the end. Alternatively, I can let the music run into the beginning of the next track and then kill it. How about some respect for the music? Are there any players that have this capability?

Some players have a "single" mode, where the player stops after the selected track has finished.

And this might be the symbol for it...

My old Philips CD player could do this with the Program key: if no playlist was programmed prior to starting playback, pressing 'program' during playback would start a playlist of just that single track, so it would stop afterwards.

My SACD player however doesn't have such a key. Programming a playlist only works by means of on-screen display there.

Respecting the music, you must listen whole album...

what a crock of shit. (excuse my language... but hey... am I disrespecting String Quartet op76 no.1 if I don't necessarily also listen to op.76 no.2? I hope you just wrote that because you were bored [as I must be, even responding to this...])

I know where they are coming from, on many music albums, even non-classical ones, the album as a whole (not just individual songs) is of artistic significance, ever wondered how track order is determined, well, it's not hard to guess for example, why "I'll be your baby tonight" and "Tonight I'll be staying here with you" are the closing tracks on the Bob Dylan albums John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline respectively, or why Tonight Will be Fine is the closing track on Leonard Cohen's second album, Songs from a Room, there are other similar factors too.

Why does the hifi world throw up such pretentious people? We buy an album and if we choose to ignore the artiste's chosen song order or ignore all songs on an album but one that is our perogative as the paying public. I agree that assertions recommending listening to albums as a whole or even appreciating them as a whole is "a crock of shit".
