Anyone interested in this upcoming SACD?? I am, primarily for the PM Davies "An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise" as this is one of my favorite PM Davies pieces!!!

I'm certainly very interested! I wondered what might have prompted such an eclectic programme from an American-based company, bearing in mind that here in the UK, with our devolved governments in Scotland and Wales, the Britannia concept is thought by some to be very dated. However, Runnicles was educated at George Watson's School in Edinburgh (where I live), so he will know Scottish composers quite well. He has now been appointed as Chief Conductor of the Glasgow-based BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a very fine band. Maxwell's The Orkney Wedding is one of my favourites too; its portrayal of an Orkney Wedding is so realistic, and the wonderful coup de theatre at the end, where a piper enters through the back door of the wedding hall to wake up the snoring, drunken revellers at sunrise is just made for multi-channel SACD. The Britten Sinfonia da Requiem will be most welcome too.

Im interested especially for thew Britten piece BUT I am concerned about one of the works by One of the composers.Normally his stuff is just for a headache..I dont mean Elgar either..
Can anyone tell me what the piece is like..Is it in three parts?

I just got that in the mail... but unfortunately TELARC sent the regular CD only so I shan't be able to add much about the SACD-related sound quality once I get around to hearing it. The Britten looks particularly intriguing... and having heard MacMillan's Seven last Words live (and on record, of course), I am piqued by his "Britannia".

It puzzles me that Telarc still insist on issuing separate RBCDs and SACDs. Would it not be cheaper to produce hybrids like everyone else? It would certainly solve the problem of getting the 'wrong' disc in the post.

Well, in their defense, I didn't specify either SACD or RBCD. So I got the Jarvi Tchaik Sy.6 on RBCD, too. Producing hybrids is apparently quite a bit more expensive (and cumbersome) than CDs -- so splitting it in regular CD and SACD for those who want it saves much more money than they'd save from the economics of scale gained by only producing hybrids.
MacMillan's Britannia, btw. is plenty fun and a sweet, sentimental surprise.
