With respect, I completely disagree. Stereo is ok but for acoustic music, especially that with cori spezzati effects, only MCH will do. In any respect, it sounds far better than stereo can ever sound and the walls melt in a way that is impossible to achieve with stereo...

Personally, I agree with you. But if one is a 2-channel fan, then there is no compelling reason to go multi-channel for music that was originally mastered as stereo.

To reiterate, I prefer listening to multi-channel because it brings a certain ambience and "air" to the music. But when done badly, it can be detremental. But that's another argument altogether!

Yes - and I would add (for those new to the site and medium) how many SACD's were originally mastered to be stereo only these days? A small number and becoming fewer as a proportion...

Of course a badly mastered release (in any format: mono, stereo, MCH) is detrimental to the performance(s) but as you say, this is another matter entirely!

Very good point. Multi channel is the way to go then! ;-)

Although, this does rais the point as to how the 2-channel mixes are produced from the multi-channel masters. Hmmm. Or do they have 2 sets of recordign equipment. Thsi gets interestinger and interestinger.

The best SACD players (not universal disc players) seem to be 2 channel. Cambridge Audio has a dandy for under a thousand, and there are others.

Also, your present setup is two channel.

But if I were you, I'd consider a unversial player (or a DVD machine with SACD capability) with the idea that you could always expand.

Multichannel enthusiasts and 2 channel enthusiasts will always disagree. I say there's nothing wrong with being prepared in case you change your mind.

BUT... the redbook capability of the machine you are considering should be a deciding factor. I'm sure you must still have a few of those around. SACD's sound great on most players. Not so with CD's.

Then of course there is always the EMM labs (awfully expensive) multi-channel transport and DAC combination, the DAC of which PentaTone and others use for their monitoring.
