And I don't mean Meridian Lossless Packing. :P

I just saw the news about Mercury Living Presence titles making their way onto SACD.

Stephen, if you're wrong, I'll send you N*SYNC's latest CD to punish you. :)

I wonder if the iclassics.com message board thread had any effect in terms of which titles get released first.

Decca probably got so many suggestions for titles that maybe they just decided to choose for themselves! Anyway, given the response they got to their survey, it would be pretty hard not to deliver on these SACDs. Thanks to everybody here that joined in. I've already decided to get the Starker and Janis.

good news indeed. Like you stephen, I'll go straight for the Janis. I still love the Wild set, but the Janis was equally special.

I've already made up my mind about three from the first batch "The Firebird" (a great performance), the superb Respighi "Ancient Airs and Dances for the Lute", the Suppé overtures with Paul Paray and it could extend to four with the the Byron Janis Rachmaninov 2 and 3. (I'm hoping his Prokofiev 3rd with Kyril Kondrashin will eventually apppear too). I, too, love the Earl Wild/Jascha Horenstein Rachmaninov concerti set (with the Paganini Rhapsody). I'm also looking forward to some Frederick Fennell and Howard Hanson releases too.

johnno, how about adding an email to mine to Chandos, who did the last re-mastering of the Earl Wild Rachmaninoff, and to Chesky and Ivory records, both of whom have released his discs in recent years and may be willing to remaster,
to ask if they'd consider a DSD remastering of the Wild set on SACD?. The more voices added, the more somneone out there might consider it. I'll be getting the Janis as well, but the Wild, even with those dreadful cuts in the 2nd and 3rd concertos, is still something very special.
