9 releases listed at CDUniverse under new releases April 29th.

The Dead Can Dance SA-CDs would appear to be out in June. I'm not sure what the earlier set is but it has been pulled by Japanese retailers. Follow the links from here for the June set:

This box set is going to be awesome! I can't wait!!!! (see a pict in this site http://www.zavvi.co.uk/music-20+to+999.99-Indie-or-alternative-50+to+199.99-Dead-Can-Dance-The-SACD-Box-Set/860410/cr33cr33.r10.1/p.jsf) It seems that cdjapan will not sell the box, just the separate cd's... Even when this is going to be the cheaper option, I'll go for the box set. Note that cdjapan has a release date of june 25 not the supposedly official june 2nd.

Great stuff. Looks like it will go nicely with the earlier DCD box ('1981-1998') I'm chasing, and stuff like Toward The Within.

I ordered the complete box set about a fortnight ago and have just been informed that it will not be available until mid-July.

As far as the DCD albums are concerned, I only know "Aion" -- which I love -- so have to hope that the other eight are musically pretty similar in style.

My introduction to DCD was through a 4AD sample CD that has "The Protagonist" on it and that blew me away. Unfortunately, that particular piece does not appear to be on any of these albums. A real pity.

Johnno, that track was exclusive for the 4AD compilation Lonely Is An Eyesore, along with Frontier(demo version), wich I agree, they're both stunning songs. The Protagonist was recorded during the sessions of Within The Realm of a Dying Sun, so you will love that album. Even more, I'm sure you will like all of them, every one is a gemm. An yes, 4AD has given an official date for the release of this box set: june 30th (http://www.4ad.com/news/details-of-the-r/)

Thanks for your comments, Barbazul. Yes, that's the compilation. I just love those minor chords in the Protagonist and the almost endless tread of the whole thing, as well as the use of the tam-tam at the end. Terrific! It sounds pretty good on that sampler disc but might be even better on SACD.
Maybe later, but probably not?

As far as "Aion" is concerned, I'm amazed at just how good that RBCD sounds. There's great clarity and spaciousness -- "engineered" somwhat on the voices -- and tremendous weight at the bottom end on the drums so it will be interesting to find out what improvements the SACD offers. I'm really looking forward to the entire box as I'm sure I'm going to discover some "goodies".

I wonder if the Cocteau Twins might be next?

I'm getting "Aion" on SACD too, but for a couple of other albums I'm not concicved the reverb-drenched, dynamics-free recordings have much potential for sonic improvement.

Hello,

Someone has asked about album recommendations from DCD earlier in the thread. It might be up to personal preference but the albums that really stand out are: Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun, The Serpents Egg, Aion, Into The Labyrinth and Spiritchaser. You can't go wrong with any of these.
I can't wait to get mine.
Regards,
Patryk

I don't mind paying extra, but the box set is double the cost of the 9 discs! The difference is only the velvet box and the outer box, isn't it?

That's true, no difference if you buy them alone (same art, songs, booklet, obi, hybrid cd, etc.). I preorder mine at amazon.co.uk for £111.00 (216.9 dls) so it's not that expensive. If you buy them separate it's almost 180.00 dls... I'm a fan of Dead Can Dance as well of SACD so =)

Johnno, if you like the song, The Protagonist, I'm sure you'll love the video for that song, it can't be more coherent, visualy talking, with the music. As for Cocteau Twins...well, all albums, singles and ep's were remastered some years ago, a wasted opportunity to make them hi rez! It's a pity.
