It's Sony's MEX-DV2000.
5.1ch 4-Volt RCA outputs, internal Dolby-Digital and DTS Digital Surround decoder, as well as Dolby Pro-Logic II even for analog inputs (3.5mm front auxiliary input, CD Changer input, radio and regular CDs).

Enjoy!

I see the amp is 4x 52W ... how does it support multichannel SACDs ? Is there a quad downmix from the 5.1 tracks ?

[EDIT] OK, I have read the doc, and there is a CSO mode available, that can emulate a center speaker (works only when SACD quality is set to low quality 44.1KHz vs high quality 176.4KHz).

Hi Stipus,

The DV2000 does decode 5.1ch SA-CD, DTS5.1 discs, DVDs and also has Pro-Logic II. The 4 speaker outputs will give you only Front and Rear signals, so you'll need to hook-up at least another 4ch amp, so you can bridge a couple of its channels to power the sub, while using only one of the remaining channels to power the center speaker. Most car 4ch amps have independent gain ctrls for each pair of channels, so you can adjust the sub and center ch levels independently.
In my opinion, a better system wouldn't use the speaker outputs at all, only the RCA preouts, and you can do it with a 6ch amp (few available) or with two 4ch amps. A nice feature is the digital-time-alignment tool (independent per speaker).
The CSO is mostly a "simulation of a center ch" kind of feature, that you'd use only if there's no way to install a real center ch speaker in your particular car, or if the only amplification you want to do is the sub sounds with an amp+sub set-up. The effect is OK, but not like a real center speaker, and you can't adjust the CSO effect level.
I believe this head unit with such features, 4-Volt RCA preouts, 5.1ch decoding, Burr-Brown DAC, SA-CD playback and an MSRP below US$300.00 is an awesome deal!

That's a nice looking unit, but it's just the controller right? What is the model number of the matching SACD changer? I couldn't find a mobile SACD changer to go with the DV2000 on that web site.

Does this unit provide Bass Management, not just for the Dolby/DTS outputs, but for MC SACD too???????

The unit plays single discs - the slot for the discs is behind the faceplate.

This will do more to promote the SACD cause - That is, if it is done right....Then it will quite naturally become the new "must have" toy for anyone seriously into high quality auto sounds...

When this thing is final reviewed - please post it here - It almost sounds too good to be true at the $269.00 list price....I'd feel much better about buying it after reading a few good solid reviews...esp. concerning how they pull off the SACD center channel simulation...

At any rate, putting this player out in the market is a step in the right direction...Thanks Sony!!!

I downloaded the manual, and found my own answer. This unit provides Bass Management when doing Doly Digital, DTS, Dolby PLII, and STEREO SACD's in the low res mode ONLY. To play Multichannel SACDs, you have to put the player in the
High Quality mode, and that shuts off Bass Management, Time Alignment, and the phantom center channel mode!!!!! This is rediculous, and makes this unit absolutly worthless! Who's going to have 5 full-sized full range speakers in a car ??!!?? It's just like the JVC DVD-Audio deck, with no Time align no Bass Management. What were these guys thinking?
Maybe Outlaw audio will come out with a Bass Manager for the car?

One could use a Y-cable for the front LEFT and REAR channels and use one of the inputs on a 2-channel amp for that whilst the other input is from the 'subwoofer' input.

The one thing that I have noticed is that the subwoofer only seems to kick-in with MC SACD and not anything else. I'm going to investigate this some more when my friend comes back from Petawawa. Right now it is setup in High Quality mode for MC SACD.

If you want time alignment and all the other crap that severely degrades the sound of an SACD you should just use an iPod instead of SACDs. Bass management would be nice though, that works without making a complete mess of the sound but my experience with any player that does it is that you basically end up with the equivalent of DVD-Audio for sound quality, but for a car who cares.
