I have nothing much to add to Daland's review of this very fine disc. However, I did find an insert in the booklet, and apparently this is the first of a 4 volume set of Sibelius symphonies.
Vol. 2 - Sym. 4 & 5
Vol. 3 - Sym. 2
Vol. 4 - Sym. 6 & 7
I look forward to these discs with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic.

I am considering purchasing this disc, but before the monetary outlay, I'd like to get more insight into this performance.

Last Saturday, I attended a performance of the Sibelius 6th by the Nashville Symphony (in their fantastic new concert hall) under Giancarlo Guerrero. It was almost a revelation - swift, urgent, intense; very well done. I greatly enjoyed it.

I currently have Jarvi's set on DG and Karajan's EMI recordings; I'm looking to purchase a Sibelius recording with more intensity and perhaps faster pace, more like what I heard live on Saturday.

How do these recordings measure up in this regard? Are they of the more reflective, relaxed variety of Sibelius or more urgent? Thanks for all opinions!
