Does anyone have an opinion on this recent release relative to 2 channel SACD performance? I am tempted but the price is a barrier.

I have ordered it for less than 20 Euro at amazon.fr, but shipping will take some time. It is also available from DVD-Legacy at Amazon.fr Marketplace for only 15 Euro + 3.4 Euro shipping to Europe.
I heard the album more that 15 years ago. I think it's the best Cowboy Junkies album, together with the inevitable "Trinity Sessions".
Some posters on the Steve Hoffman forum have written that the stereo layer is improved a lot over the original CD, but that the artificial surround sound (the recording has been made with a single stereo microphone, hence no real surround remix posssible) is rather useless, sort of a duplicated stereo sound.

I love the Junkies - I have just about all of their stuff (including the one previous SACD, "Open", one of my least favorite Junkie releases, unfortunately). I've never been a fan of WOEN either, but just in case I listened to my RBCD again on a trip over the Santa Cruz Mountains on the way to Carmel Valley - nope, still doesn't do it for me. I'm going to pass on this SACD. I'd love to see the rest of the catalog on SACD, though.

The sonics on the SACD are excellent. And the Surround Sound SACD layer is surprisingly good - despite the lack of multichannel master tapes.
