No, I learned to set the volume to 0 a long time ago. I hear the constant chirping/buzzing sound in the background whether I use hdmi out to my receiver or analog out to my headphone amp. It is very soft but still kind of annoying as I am used to hearing a black background from other transports. I suppose I'll just have to get used to it.

Post your query in the PS3 section of the AVForums website - that is where I have had all my PS3 questions answered. (I hope it's ok to mention other non-affiliated forum websites here!)

With rumors on AVS that the PS3 will drop in price to 399 at the end of the month, I might be joining you guys using a PS3 instead of my Denon 2900 for SACD. I will need to upgrade to an HDMI receiver though for that to happen as my 2802 wont know what to do with HDMI.

Don't forget to get a receiver that will handle a DSD input over HDMI (HDMI 1.2 andupwards)....should the PS3 ever get an update allowing this. Still waiting!

Does the Onkyo 805 have that? I have my eye on that unit as a preamp and the outlaws as amps.

Yes - it has HDMI V1.3a, so it will handle all hi-def audio/video streams over the one cable (providing your other box can output them).

There's a list of AV receivers to use with PS3 on http://www.ps3sacd.com/faq.html#_Toc177216800

A specific version of HDMI supports several features but not all of those are mandatory for a manufacturer to implement. DSD support was added to HDMI 1.2 but are optional.

Unless a manufacturer actually write that it supports an optional feature you cannot be sure that it is implemented.

For instance, NAD are now releasing new receivers that has HDMI 1.3a but none of them can decode DSD over HDMI.

The new 40G model of the PS3 "brand" headed for Europe/Australia will not support SA-CD playback.. Its not clear if there will be two models - 40G and 80G for these markets, and if the 80G will have SA-CD playback.
Hopefully Sony will release a 80G version, which supports SA-CD.. As many had hope that the PS3 would help attract greater take up of SA-CD

Just thinking. Why should any SACD player be better than the PS3 for SACD playback? With the power at the PS3's behest, and the connections afforded to it, then why should any SACD player be better than it?

Obviously, it can't be (one of) the best, but not sure why????
