Or do they mean that you can hook up an SA-CD player to it but ONLY play a redbook CD back over it?? If so, they should explain this as such in plain and straightforward English.

To remain on topic, I do find the sound of SA-CD via the PS3's HDMI output much more pleasing and exciting than that from the old Pioneer's 6 x analogue jacks.

What amp or receiver are you using, please?

Do these settings have any effect if you use the analog MultiAV outlet to source material or is this in relation to the PCM signal via HDMI?

According to this site, SCE has indicated the settings affect both analog and digital output!

I just got my 910 yesterday and hooked it up. Tremendous machine! I finally got to hear some Floyd and Dire Straits SACD in 5.1. I also got it to play my dts CDs. The only thing left is to hook up my old DVD player so that I can play DVD-Audio discs in 5.1 (or at all for that matter!) since the PS3 won't do that. I might even try a Blu-Ray in it tonight.

My next purchase will be for an upgrade to my speakers. I'm using some Sonys that came with a HTIB system. I'm moving up to the Polk Audio RM6750 set. I can't wait!

Again, thanks to everyone on this forum for their help and advice. I wish I had found this place before buying my first receiver.

Oh cool, you bought it too! Isn't it just the dogs'? Dark Side of the Moon sounds outstanding on this, though Blonde on Blonde gets my vote for some cool 5. listening. Just got my 3rd HDMI cable from play, com this morning for it -this time for the PS3. Made one HELL of a difference.

Can any of you PS3 experts out there give me advice about my connections. I seem to be hearing several different stories on what is best. I do not have a HDMI compatable system and am not planning an upgrade anytime soon.

Here is my set-up:

Denon 3803 (no HDMI connection)
Digital television 100hz Progressive scan compatable (no HDMI connection)SCART cable.

Audio:

Do I run my audio out on the PS3 digital (optical) to my 3803 for the best digital sound?

Do I need to upgrade the RCA two channel output cables and connect these to my 3803 for the best SACD two channel sound?

Video:

What is best approach: composite (component) or s-video to my Denon 3803, then connect my 3803 to my television?

or

PS3 direct to my television with an adapted cable?

Are there adapted cables HDMI to SCART? All my component inputs besides two SCARTs are located on the front of my television.

Any advice would be great, I do not want to get the wrong cables and set up configurations.

I got my Polk Audio speakers on Friday and what a difference they make. A lot more midrange makes everything sound fuller.

Another good 5.1 SACD is Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms. The drums on Money for Nothing are the best!

Component gives better picture quality than composite or s-video. SCART is widely used in Europe and combines both video and audio, and should give better picture quality than composite or s-video. As of which is better (component or SCART) I do not know, but I sure would not like to have cables dangling from the front of our TV nor would my wife (though I am very sure that our 3 1/2 year old toddler would love playing with those cables).

Even if you use SCART you do not have to use the audio part of it, of course, but you may have to disable it in the TV or turn the TV volume to zero if you use your receiver for sound. Failure to do so gives interesting effects :-)

As of audio: with no HDMI I would guess that analog is better when playing hybrid SACD. You would have to try this for yourself.

Good quality cables are required, but they do not have to be that expensive. www.audioholics.com have recommendations that seems very good and not overly expensive. Power cables and the like you may just skip and use the ones supplied with your equipment.

Edit:spelling

I have the DVD-Audio of that one and "Sailing to Philadelphia". I'll have to listen to them again. Thanks!
