My cellist-wife and I have spent the last three or four evenings, listening to Beethoven Trios, starting with Horszowski-Végh-Casals, then the Castle Trio series on Virgin Classics, then the Beaux Arts, Kempf and Storioni SACDs....
Some of the other performances are quite beautiful but lack energy (the Végh-Casals version is moribund and occasionally out of tune)-- causing the wife several times to snarl "Come ON, boys... Get With! MOVE it!!!". This 1964 Beaux Arts Trio beats them all in spirit, musical unity and just plain FUN. This is apparent in the times for the Archduke:
45:48 Horszowski-Végh-Casals 42:32 Castle Trio 40:44 Kempf Trio 37:42 Beaux Arts Trio

Bylsma's recording clocks in at just under 37; it's quite good.

I tried to order this SACD, but sadly it appears to be deleted.
On CD, in Gulag Archipelago sound, but a sublime interpretation, is the old Gilels-Kogan-Rostropovich performance of the Archduke, formerly available on Chant du Monde. 43'45, with first movement exposition repeat.

Ramesh:
The Japanese Universal titles seem to all be getting deleted silently. I have had some success trying various vendors. (One might have in stock what another tried unsuccessfully to order.) But in any case if you want any of these titles you probably need to act quickly.

I ordered this from amazon.jp in January. Last week I received notice from them that this was no longer available.

I ordered it yesterday, among 9 others from Universal Japan. Especially wanted the old Decca too badly. Let's see if they'll have this one, I'll cross my fingers.

I don't think you will have much luck with this one. It doesn't seem to be available from any of the other vendors I could locate. That being said, if you get lucky, please pass on the good word.
